About the programme
International Legal Studies is an English-language certificate programme run by the Faculty of Law at FSU. The programme is based at the Law & Language Centre and offers students the opportunity to explore international law, the common law and specific aspects of international relations through additional classes. This approach provides insights into these legal systems whilst fostering an understanding of both the similarities and differences compared with German law.
International legal relations now characterise almost all legal professions. Consequently, sound foreign-language skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of foreign legal systems and international and European law, are essential qualifications for legal professionals. These skills are taught as part of the certificate programme alongside the student’s degree course. Furthermore, the programme can serve as useful preparation for an international master's programme in law (LL.M.).
The certificate programme is structured in two stages and leads to the award of the ‘International Legal Studies’ and ‘Advanced International Legal Studies’ certificates . To obtain each certificate, students must successfully complete courses|classes totalling ten semester hours per week. Students may choose from a wide range of courses|classes in common law, European law and international law.
