Digital frontlines: Security and arms control policy challenges in the digital age
The world is confronted with a dramatic number of global crises amid escalating geopolitical rivalries. At the same time, significant technological developments are taking place in the military field, notably in autonomous weapons systems and artificial intelligence, as well as in relation to space and cyberspace. These trends are already changing the way conflicts are conducted. They harbour the risk of new types of arms races and escalation dynamics, and raise key questions of international law and ethics. Meeting these challenges is a central aspect of all security and defence policy efforts in the 21st century.
