Obtaining a foreign language certificate

In order to be admitted to the compulsory state examination, a foreign language certificate is required in accordance with Section 16(2), first sentence, No. 3 of the Thuringian Examination Regulations for Legal Training (ThürJAPO). This certificate is awarded upon successful completion of a law course taught in a foreign language or a language course with a legal focus.

The foreign language certificate can be obtained in any of the classes|courses offered by the Law & Language CentreExternal link. The certificate is issued upon completion of one of the classes|courses and passing a final examination.

Alternatively, students may enrol for one of the two language courses offered by the Language Centre at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (‘English for Law Students’ and ‘French for Legal and Political Science Students – B1+’), which have a specific legal focus and must also be completed by passing an examination.
