Welcome to the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCE) at the University of Jena!
European Integration - Rules and Institutions
The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Jena was established at the University of Jena in September 2013. Chairs of three cooperating faculties are involved in the programm: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The Centre is funded by the European Commission.
The recent global financial crisis has stirred a vigorous debate about the future of the EU: do we need more economic integration? If so, how can it be effectively achieved? Does more economic integration require more political and legal integration? European politics is currently trying to answer these and other pressing questions. Sustainable answers, however, may only be found if political efforts are backed up by broad and deep research on the rules and institutions relating to the European economic integration process. The JMCE Jena will contribute to this research by bringing together leading experts from various fields of European economic integration studies. The three core objectives are to:
- enhance interdisciplinary research and teaching;
- strengthen trans-European Networks and
- further knowledge dissemination and debate on European economic integration studies.
